  • May 23, 2006. Class Action Suit

It may have taken two years, but relief is at hand for thousands of former Lifestyles 2000 gym members.

Many members had complained about Gold's Gym's refusal to honor their lifetime contracts or refund membership fees when the Salt Lake City-based fitness chain was acquired in 2004. There were five Lifestyles 2000 fitness centers in Orem, Sandy, West Jordan, Holladay and Sugarhouse.

  • November 20, 2003. Financially unfit gymnasium:

HUNDREDS of people were surprised to find Gold's Gym, where they paid thousands of yuan every year to exercise, closed by the Jing'an District court on November 12 for failing to pay back large over 3 million yuan (US$361,882) in unpaid rent.

  • January 9, 2003. Attorney General settles with Gold's Gym:

The New York State Attorney General's office said it has reached an agreement with the Gold's Gym chain in a case that will protect health club members. Attorney General Eliot Spitzer said the dispute with Gold's Gym, based in Venice, Calif., centered on the company's failure to post performance bonds as required under New York law.

  • December 3, 1998. Jaws Sacked:

When his membership at Gold's Gym by Ron Jaworski came up for renewal in July, Dennis Wolk asked about the club's stability. He'd heard that primary owner Jaworski, the former Eagles quarterback, had been looking for a buyer, so Wolk wanted to be sure he and his wife would get 12 months of workouts for the $900-some they were about to put down.

  • September 22, 1998. Nixon reaches agreement with Gold's Gym in Kansas City to provide restitution for members of closed facility:

Jefferson City, Mo. -- Missourians who paid for membership to the now-defunct Gold's Gym in downtown Kansas City may be eligible for refunds under an agreement reached with Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon. Under the agreement, signed Sept. 16 by Jackson County Circuit Judge John I. Moran, C&R Fitness Partners, Harlan S. Cole and Charles D. Rappe agree to pay restitution to eligible members of the Gold's Gym the defendants operated at 106 W. 11th St. This agreement provides refunds to members of a facility they can no longer use and it also offers added protection for consumers against future closings or relocations, Nixon said.
